Friends, Clients & Partners,
It’s with gratitude and pride that I write this blog post, celebrating the 9 year anniversary of Carver Peterson Consulting. Milestones have always prompted me to pause & reflect and I wanted to take a moment to recognize some key people and say thank you to all of the leaders who have trusted me with their businesses & sales teams.
Nine years ago, I started Carver Peterson with a wide range of experiences from a world-class sales organization. I was young*, but battle-tested. I had built, led and managed teams and I had worked for and with some of the very best leaders. I had looked deep inside of myself to understand my strengths and weaknesses. I had found my passion and purpose.
I was ready!
For anyone who is familiar with Ken Blanchard ’s famous Situational Leadership model. It didn’t take long for my “Enthusiastic Beginner” to turn into a “Disillusioned Learner”. Excitement wore off. Reality set in. Fear started creeping around the corner.
Thankfully, I had family, friends and mentors around me who provided support and guidance and I continued learning and growing and building my competence and confidence as an independent consultant. My experience was turning into expertise.
Thankfully, I had entrepreneurs and executive leaders who believed my style and approach was right for their businesses as they worked to build high-performing sales teams.
Thankfully, I had brilliant people who were interested in joining me at Carver Peterson and did amazing work for our clients and helped develop & refine our methodology.
Selina Doran was my very 1st team member and worked with me for 6 years. Smart, compassionate, energetic, loving and incredibly loyal. In her very first client-facing meeting, she confidently challenged an executive leader and I immediately knew that I had found someone truly exceptional. Selina played a pivotal role in shaping and formalizing our methodology, contributing significantly to our success. Over the years, she evolved from a talented and dynamic consultant into an exceptional leader.
Tim Schumm , a former colleague, joined me as partner a couple years into the business. With a growth-focused mindset, a grand vision, and an innovative spirit, Tim injected fearlessness into Carver Peterson. Ultimately, his passion led him to embark on his entrepreneurial journey, founding Lucas James Talent Partners - a venture that has been an absolutely success (Chicago's Top Workplaces 2023).
Chris Kiser joined me in 2021 after I tried to hire him several years earlier. Brilliant, sharp and wise beyond his years. He elevated the caliber of our work, making it not only better but also faster and more impactful. Also, he fearlessly challenged my norms and the status quo, providing a fresh perspective that allowed me to see the world through a different lens.
Along the way, my wife (Molly) & I got engaged, married and became parents to three wonderful children (Grady, Camden & Mila). We relocated from the heart of downtown Chicago to the suburbs of Milwaukee and transitioned the work from 100% in-person to 100% virtual.
As I reflect on this journey, I am immensely proud of where we are today, but I am also excited about what the future holds. My commitment to helping growth-minded leaders build high-performing sales teams remains unwavering. The lessons learned, the challenges & obstacles overcome and the relationships that have been built all contribute to making Carver Peterson the company it is today.
Thank you for being a part of this incredible journey. Here's to the next nine years and beyond!
